“I want to say to the American people that while I agree with your statement wholeheartedly that we have to do much more with the entitlements--and let's be very precise, the one that is really, really in need of a long-term fix is Medicare--not because anybody wants to deny anyone anything, but the stark fact is that it, by itself, can break this country in another 15, 20 years all by itself. Frankly, I never believed that we could fix Medicare in its totality in a budget resolution and a bill that was thrust by a budget resolution.”
