What they`re trying to do is to make it as hard as possible for especially black and brown communities and also people with disabilities, for instance, many senior citizens as well to vote.

They see that Texas is changing. It`s the fear of the future. The demographic change... They`re afraid especially of black and brown communities voting at record levels.

It makes sense to try to do things that help expand our voting privileges, our voting rights, rather than to diminish them.

I think that is why this legislation is so fundamentally important going forward.

Closing 750 polling locations that tended to be in areas where there are concentrations of Black and Brown voters; requiring photo ID.

Texas has a very strong, clear, consistent pattern of enacting laws that disenfranchise particularly voters of color.

They work all together to have a disparate impact on people of color.

I urge you to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
