I appreciate the subcommittee's interest in the human rights situation in Vietnam and welcome the efforts today to address it.
There is no doubt. There is no doubt at all. There is worldwide crackdown on civil society underway, and this is but one example.
The message needs to be clear back to their government that it is not a slam dunk.
I hope so much that the Congress will adopt the Vietnam Human Rights acts, because I have the feeling that the United States support human rights already for 3 million Communist Party but not for 87 million Vietnamese people.
