There is no longer any reason why American children should suffer from polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, or tetanus.

Neither money nor technical assistance, however, can be our only weapon against poverty.

But there is no comfort or security for us in evasion, no solution in abdication, no relief in irresponsibility.

Before my term has ended, we shall have to test anew whether a nation organized and governed such as ours can endure.
