“Good morning, Mr. President and colleagues. I was very interested in listening to the distinguished Senator from Georgia and the Senator from Pennsylvania. I am trying to keep track of what he was quoting from. We decided he was quoting from Miller, chapter 1, verses 6 through 12. I am sure it is considered a holy document. And of course, as most documents, there are two sides to every story. Indeed, on that I imagine you have at least two sides to Miller, chapter 1, verses 6 through 12. I arrived in this institution over 30 years ago and remember quite well driving up from Washington 35 years ago in a U-Haul with two small children and my wife. I was in absolute awe of the Capitol. In fact, the first time I had ever had an opportunity to visit Washington was when I came here to work as a very young aide to a then-sitting Member of Congress on the House side. Over those 35 years, I have come to love and respect and appreciate all of the good things that this institution, including the other body, as well as the Senate, stands for. It is a wonderful opportunity to engage in serious debate about the important issues of the day and to address the important issues and problems facing the people of this Nation. That is what this institution does best.…”
