On the recordDecember 20, 2010
today I pay tribute to my distinguished colleague from Utah, Senator Robert Bennett, who will be retiring from the Senate at the end of the 111th Congress. I have worked with Bob since coming over to the Senate in 1998. I have also had the privilege of serving on the Senate Energy and Banking Committees with Bob. In fact, we sat next to each other for years in the Banking Committee. He is a man of integrity and devotion. As a young man, he worked as a staffer on Capitol Hill and moved on to become a successful entrepreneur in Washington, DC. In 1992, he followed in his father's footsteps and was elected to the U.S. Senate. Over the course of his three consecutive terms in the Senate, Bob has fought hard for our shared conservative values of fiscal discipline, securing our borders, and energy independence. Bob has served the people of Utah proudly as their Senator. His leadership on the Banking Committee and in the Senate will be missed. I am honored to know him and to have worked with him. I would like to thank Bob for his contributions to the Senate and to the country we both love. I wish him and his family the best in all of their future endeavors.
