Senator Dodd has many other demands on his time, and his willingness to schedule this hearing, despite those demands, demonstrates his commitment to confronting this serious threat.

I think that the time for more aggressive action draws really, really close.

Might this not increase the cost to get them to change that calculus a bit?

He is a man of integrity, intelligence, and as I have said, he focuses on the bottom line--how do we work together to help people.

I am confident that he will bring that same devotion to consensus building and pragmatism to the Federal Government.

We have an honest man with us here today, Mr. Chairman.

But, of these funds, there's nothing that could be saved that was originally authorized for these three sites.

So, it's just a coincidence that the most pressing needs in those particular areas happen to be at these three sites?

Apparently, the decision about where to locate the 8,000 marines from Okinawa is going to be decided in the QDR.

See why a taxpayer might be a bit skeptical that these three facilities were proposed to be expanded...

This is a matter of national security, so if you need some changes in the law to help us address this threat, please let us know what needs to be done.

But, those funds would have been available to address all the needs facing the military in this area, at all the sites.
