If they are simply, in spite of their best intentions, incapable of producing something that is in the national interest, then their parochial concerns must give way to doing what is in the best interest of this country.
I believe that it is strongly desirable to also have credible non-government experts as part of the commission.
We can no longer afford to continue on like this and must have a special process to help correct the problem.
We must put a credible process in place that would accomplish two key goals.
The bottom line for me, Mr. Chairman, is that business as usual in Washington is not going to solve this problem.
In my view, the Congress and the President should take action no later than early 2010 to be able to move to create a special commission.
I respectfully suggest that we do not just need bipartisan solutions, we need nonpartisan solutions.
