The Canadian Museum for Human Rights made an “error in curation” of an exhibit about displaced Palestinians which he says “should be rectified.”

The reported assault is appalling and vile and that such violence and Islamophobia have no place in Canada.

It is not the place of the minister, or anyone in this house, to dictate museum policy, and what is curated, and what is not.

So we know very well that these chatbots themselves can be safe by design, they can be subject to requirements that protect children.

This is unacceptable. We’re failing our children. Enough is enough.

We’ve seen the tragic consequences of online harm, both around the world and here in Canada.

They don’t have the same social role as the social media platforms. So we know very well that these chatbots themselves can be safe by design, they can be subject to requirements that protect children.

We’re going to have to keep a close eye on it, but it did not feel appropriate to impose a minimum age restriction at this time.

We will take all the reasonable measures to make sure kids are safe in this country.

Admittedly, they play a function and a role that can be very damaging towards kids, but can also play an important function in the educational system and in the AI strategy that we are putting forward.

We know that social media can be made safe by design.

I believe all parties should agree on the importance of these minimum safeguards.

It is key to making sure that kids have a safer experience in this country, in their online experiences, and actually get out and play.

This is stuff we’ll have to do in partnership.

Admittedly, (AI chatbots) play a function and a role that can be very damaging towards kids, but can also play an important function in the educational system.

It is very much an evolving playing field.

As the commission evolves, there will be a back and forth as to what the adequacy and sufficiency of those tools are to make sure that the law is being respected.

Our parents cannot face these challenges alone, and the safety of children can’t be an afterthought.

I think it's obvious why it's a priority. Kids are dying.

That is why it was so key to have a commission able to interact with industry and able to give some teeth to this law, so that we just didn't hope and pray that this would be enforced.
