I would say anecdotally, in my State, with the previous Administration for 8 years, we really asked the EPA to come to our State to have a listening session which we were never able to get.
Not every aspect of our environmental policy can or should be dictated from here in Washington.
The concept of cooperative federalism is enshrined in all of our major environmental statutes.
We have always had a strong working relationship with the EPA, but this Administration has been coming to States for that technical information as opposed to just imposing its will through the Federal implementation plan.
What is the status of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site storage license review? What can we expect to see in the next 5 years on this nuclear waste storage issue?
I raised the point, even though it is difficult to get from point A to point B sometimes because of the mountains that we have, that we were violating that farmer's rights, and it just felt too intrusive to me.
I think we share with all the witnesses, and really all of us on this Committee and in the Senate, that we realize how important our Nation's farmers and ranchers are, and we don't want to overburden with regulations.
Our voters went to the polls last October and passed a $1.5 billion infrastructure package that actually raised the gas tax in our state.
I would hope that resources would be available to help our agricultural entities deal with this predator that is pretty sneaky and pretty tough to get.
It just struck me that the EPA, we found out later, had rented a small aircraft to surveil the small farms in the eastern portion of our States.
