the oldest trick in Washington is that if you disagree with somebody, impugn their motives, do not attack their policies. That is what we hear on the floor today. Motives are being impugned. All of this talk about giving corporate contributors back their money, those kinds of things, it is just ridiculous and it is a shot to the motives of this Congress. Mr. Speaker, let us bring this issue back to where it belongs, and that is the fact that we have 7.8 million in America today without a job. We are going into a recession. Now, the problem we have is we need to get people back to work. That is what we are trying to do. The whole entire purpose of a stimulus package is just that, stimulate the economy, get people back to work. So while some in this Chamber are talking about how to make unemployment a more tolerable position, how to make it something that is easier, what we seek to do in this package is to stop unemployment, to get people back to work.
