I believe strongly in additional funds for highway construction. I have led the fight early and often, both in the legislature and in the Congress, for a greater commitment to transportation infrastructure development and certainly to highways. I take a back seat to no one in placing highways as a high priority on my scale, but they are not my only priority, and I certainly would not rank them above veterans' health care. I find it especially disturbing that these veterans' health care cuts apparently are being contemplated in order to pay for a record number of special projects for Members and their districts.
