Senator Harkin and I both are advocates for the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program. This program provides funds for local multijurisdictional law enforcement efforts to eradicate crime and drugs from our society. During the budget debate we both offered amendments to restore funding for the Byrne Program. We understand that the distinguished chairman of the Budget Committee, Senator Sasser, worked hard to assure that this program was fully funded. I want to again thank the chairman for his help during the floor debate on this issue and for assuring that this program receives the Federal funding it deserves.
