On the recordJuly 10, 1997
Let me just end this debate by reiterating for my colleagues that today a woman who seeks reproductive health services has to ask her commanding officer and be flown home at taxpayer expense on one of our transports in order to receive reproductive health services. Under my amendment, she will be able to pay for it at her own cost in a safe military hospital overseas. The bottom line is this is about the basic rights of those women whom we are asking to serve in remote locations to protect this democracy and fight for our country and for other countries overseas to be given the right to reproductive health care services.
