Impacted families are living through the worst moment of their lives, and an entire community is trying to understand how a gathering built around culture, connection, and joy ended in gunfire.

There is strong pressure for elected officials to endorse fellow incumbents. It’s a way of maintaining relationships, part of the quid pro quo of governing. I understand this, but it’s not the way I want to do politics.

We’re at an inflection point in our city and our region. Voters are feeling a warranted frustration with the status quo.

I think that there are a lot of similar forces at work right now.
