“I appreciate the aggressive advocacy of the gentleman from Texas in the Committee on Ways and Means, and we are going to need that. Because, unfortunately, the proposals we have seen are $60 to $120 billion worth of tax cuts, largely for corporate interests, and not a dollar to screen luggage from bombs in aircraft. So we need this message, and I appreciate the gentleman coming this evening to do that. One other note and then I will yield to the gentlewoman from Texas. It is important that when we talk about security that we say we are not blaming the airlines for this tragedy. These evil, rank, low-lifes with no respect for human life are responsible for this tragedy. But it is incumbent on us to act reasonably as stewards for the safety of our people. Right now, until we get votes on these bills, we are not able to do that.”
