Jay Inslee: “I just want to say there is total bipartisan agreement that Americans are sick and tired of having their dinners…”

On the recordSeptember 25, 2003
I just want to say there is total bipartisan agreement that Americans are sick and tired of having their dinners interrupted by these calls, and today that is going to stop. I just want to answer the people who have raised freedom-of-speech issues here, which I do not believe apply to this, because there is also a freedom not to listen. What we are saying today is Americans have the right not to listen to these telemarketing calls. This is in the finest tradition of the Constitution which said we, the people, in order to assure the common defense and assure domestic tranquility, and we are standing up for domestic tranquility today. This is a good day to do it.
