“It is a matter of whether you will live or whether you will die in the certain circumstances that people face in real life. For that reason, it is time for the U.S. Congress to get off the dime and act on this, to pass a strong Patients' Bill of Rights. It has dithered, it has dallied, it has debated for years and not acted, and it is time for action. Mr. Speaker, what particularly motivated me on this subject, during this last campaign I met lots of folks but the one that perhaps sticks in my mind the most is a woman named Katy Slater. Katy is from Issaquah, Washington. I did not know her before the campaign. I happened to meet her on the campaign trail. She told me her story. It was a story that, unfortunately, has become to maybe not be typical but not atypical. She got breast cancer.”
