“this behavior is appalling. It is dangerous. It is evil. It is evil to seek to deny lifesaving care for children who are more at risk than any others. I spend a lot of time in LGBTQ clubs in high schools, talking to young people who are shocked when I come in and tell them that, as a queer woman, I am a Member of Congress. They say: Do you know any trans people your age? They don't believe that they will make it to 40. They don't believe that they will make it to 50 or 60. They don't believe that they have a future because they are watching the floor and listening to the words that come out of our mouths, and they know that half of the people in this Chamber do not care if they survive. Mr. Speaker, I think it is very clear that I am not going to vote for this bill, and I urge all of my colleagues to join me.”
