As I listen to the comments from our witnesses today, it makes me think about the consequences for families and children, for the United States, of working-aged men not participating in the work force.
We are looking for a rational approach to this, and 'simplify.' This certainty--because I think it would provide certainty--would help Americans invest, grow, and hire across this country and provide for their families.
We are at a time in history where we have the opportunity to really make a difference here in the lives of American people, all American people, all taxpaying citizens in this country, hard-working Americans.
I want any trade agreement, whether it is a renegotiation or a future one, to be elevating standards up to where we are.
In summary, our number-one priority should be to preserve NAFTA, at a minimum, while fixing the Canadian dairy situation.
This practice that effectively blocks our exports to Canada and negatively impacts your sales in other markets has to end.
I think the situation has created an unfair environment for our Tribal friends.
But Washington workers, farmers, and businesses cannot be left behind as other countries race to establish strong bilateral and regional agreements that carve us out.
