In fact, I think in mid-July we finally got an agreement to organize the committee. Ten minutes after we got that agreement, I noticed the first hearing and set the first hearing on President Bush's judges. The Republicans had been in charge up to that time--up until July-- and there were a number of nominees of President Bush, but they had not held any hearings whatsoever. I began the process of holding them within 10 minutes of the time I became chairman. Then, during the next 17 months, we held hearings on 103, we voted through 100, voted down 2, and had 1 remaining. There is no 17-month period under Republican control with President Clinton when that was done.
