Bernie Sanders is an American politician and activist who has served as the junior United States senator from Vermont since 2007. A member of the Independent party, Sanders is known for his progressive policies and advocacy for social justice, healthcare reform, and income equality. He previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 to 2007, where he was the first independent elected to the House in 40 years. Throughout his career, Sanders has been a vocal critic of economic inequality and corporate influence in politics.
It is an obscenity that we stigmatize so many young people with a criminal record for smoking marijuana.
There is something fundamentally wrong when the top 1 percent of the population owns more wealth than the bottom 90 percent.
The function of a good government is to represent and protect the needs of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We must stand up to the big money interests who not only want tax breaks for themselves but want to cut back on the needs of working families and the elderly.
We must not let the wealthiest people in this country, who have so much influence over our political process, make the rules for everyone else.
