The other area is that those even who receive treatment, one of the things that we have noted is that African Americans are negatively affected by prejudice and discrimination when they are in the healthcare system. Missed diagnoses, inadequate treatment, improper bedside manner, and lack of cultural competence all lead to an exacerbation of health issues that cause distrust and prevent many African Americans from seeking help in the healthcare area.
