And so we are fighting to make sure that those children are not removed; that those millions of Americans are not removed from this program. SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move toward self- sufficiency; providing food assistance that averages just $1.40 per person per meal, $1.40 per meal. SNAP is a modest benefit, with nearly half of the participants running out of benefits before the end of the month. If anything, policymakers should be debating how much to increase this supplemental benefit, given that there is no room for cuts.…”
