This is a chance for people to decide whether they stand for patients or whether they stand for the profiteering of health insurance monopolies, whether they stand for competition or for collusion. This is a victory for common sense in the midst of the health care reform debate. Only inside the beltway would those people argue that the best way to protect competition is to protect monopolies. There are those with very good intentions who want to talk about safe harbors, but I have not had constituents come up to me and say, Congress, please have more carve-outs. Congress, please have more exemptions and exceptions, please make the bills even longer.
