The U.S. military is currently taking direct action against the following individuals and groups under the authority of the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF): al-Qaeda; the Taliban; certain other terrorist or insurgent groups affiliated with al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan; al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula; al-Shabaab; al-Qaeda in Syria; and ISIS.
