This bill on the floor today is a bill that enjoys strong bipartisan support, as it should. The Long Island Sound Restoration Act is critically needed. As one of the sponsors of this important legislation, I can tell my colleagues that we have long overdue the need for the Long Island Sound study and the proper implementation of the comprehensive conservation and management plan for Long Island Sound. As we heard from the gentleman from New York (Mr. Boehlert), over the next decade, we are going to need upwards of $1 billion to restore the ecological health of Long Island Sound. Last fall, the Long Island Sound fell victim to some kind of a disease that really struck our lobster industry, and we saw a tremendous die-off of the lobster crop in Long Island Sound to the detriment of so many families on Long Island.
