On the recordJuly 30, 1996
I rise in support of H.R. 3907 and compliment my colleagues from New Jersey and New York who have previously spoken on this very important measure. The Sterling Forest Preserve is critical to our region of New York and New Jersey, and I want to also salute Governors Pataki and Whitman and of course the bipartisan cooperation that existed in allowing for this open space preservation. This is a legacy, Mr. Speaker, to our children and to future generations. We want very much to make sure that this recreation preserve and the water resource that would be protected by the acquisition of these 17,500 acres must go forward. It is critical to our area, and I thank the gentleman from Utah [Mr. Hansen] and the committee for their leadership in allowing us to come forward, and again I want to compliment the Speaker for his leadership in allowing for this preservation.
