On the recordMay 19, 2003
At this time, I have to indicate my opposition. Regrettably, I do that, but I wish to be consistent and fair to all Senators. I am fearful if we do not carefully evaluate the whole panoply of amendments that are likely to come forward to improve the benefits for the Guard and Reserve, we are going to end up with a bill that might go tilt. I must say, though, I certainly share the Senator's views that the Guard and Reserve have done wonderful service, together with their families. It is exceedingly hard for these families to let their loved ones go on these missions. We shall look at it on the morrow. I thank the Senator for his courtesies.
