We have served together on this committee for 27 years and we have, once again, with the other wonderful collection of Senators on this committee and the staff, produced a bill which clearly supports our men and women in uniform and their families, and strengthens the national security of our Nation. I also want to acknowledge the strong support that we have received from the Republican leader and the Democratic leader of the Senate. The bill provides $441.6 billion in budget authority for defense programs for the fiscal year 2006, an increase of $21 billion, or 3.1 percent in real terms, above the amount authorized by the Congress for fiscal year 2005.…”
