I thank Chairman Lieberman and Senator Collins for their help on this amendment. It is a simple amendment. One of the goals of this process is to encourage retirement expected for 100,000 members of the Postal Service. Unfortunately, now OPM has an over 50,000-person backlog of retirement claims. This is unacceptable. We still have a paper processing process. This amendment would require the Postal Service to report on a regular basis, as well as OPM, on the status of these retirement processing claims and hopefully speed up this process and also compare it to the forms of other agencies. This is completely unacceptable to folks who are retiring, waiting sometimes up to a full year to get their retirement benefits. I thank the chairman and the ranking member and ask for acceptance of the amendment. The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator from Maine is recognized.
