H. Con. Res. 133 recognizes the severity of the disease of colon cancer, the preventable nature of the disease and the need for education in the areas of prevention and early detection. Colon cancer is the number two cause of cancer death for both men and women combined. However, it is also one of the most preventable of cancers. In fact, when detected early, colon cancer is 90 percent curable. In the United States, as the gentleman from Alabama (Mr. Bachus) said, more than 130,000 new cases of colorectal cancer are expected to be diagnosed and about 56,300 people will die from the disease this year.
