Now, I understand that the Speaker of the House said that we are not taking care of these families because, quote, first of all, they do not pay taxes. Well, the fact is they do pay taxes. They pay payroll taxes. Seventy-five percent of the families in this country pay more payroll taxes than they do income taxes. They pay into the Social Security and Medicare trust funds. Of course, its those trust funds that we are having to borrow from in order to pay for these tax cuts.”
