I would ask my colleagues that are so intent on protecting the neighborhoods, does that mean that they are willing to deploy United States military resources to the neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. and Florida and Kansas and Illinois and the areas that they represent? I think not. We cannot afford it. We should not subject neighborhoods to that kind of military presence. Yet that is the very thing that they are proposing in the context of the amendment that is offered that they are opposed to a perfecting amendment that would preclude border neighborhoods from seeing and having to deal with troops on our borders.
