H.R. 3079, as amended, has received much support from the Bush administration, as well as the Northern Marianas elected resident representative, a Republican, Pedro Tenorio. Mr. Tenorio has worked hard to bring forth a bill which has consensus from both sides of the aisle. This bill brings about unified border control and immigration to the Marianas region, which will benefit our national security. In addition, the bill will foster economic development on the islands by providing local businesses and the military with ready access to labor to support the tourist industry and military base construction. I appreciate the assistance of our colleagues from the Judiciary Committee. I believe that their efforts have helped to improve the bill.
