I believe the other 10 States will adopt the Defense of Marriage Act over time which provides a marriage should be between a man and a woman. If my colleagues believe that the States ought to decide these matters, then they have to acknowledge that the 40 States which have should trump the 4-to-3 decision by an activist Massachusetts Supreme Court. The debate over marriage boils down to two fundamental questions: Should our goal be to keep marriage limited to a man and a woman? And, if so, is amending the U.S. Constitution necessary to accomplish that goal? The answer to both questions is yes.
