recently a handful of environmentalists have called for the draining of Lake Powell and the decommissioning of the Glen Canyon Dam. As the second largest man-made lake in the country, Lake Powell provides critically important water storage for the states of the Colorado River basin--the driest region in the United States. As many of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle already know, Mr. President, draining Lake Powell is unsupportable. This amendment puts this issue to rest once and for all. This legislation simply prohibits the federal government from taking any action to drain Lake Powell or to decommission the Glen Canyon Dam without Congressional approval.
