It’s definitely hard to see trade-offs for something that is imminent and much needed versus standing on principle and following the rule of law.

Neither state nor federal law entitles the Department of Justice to collect private information on law-abiding American citizens.

I think it’s good to have a place to kind of sequester folks who don’t have that documentation in a way that doesn’t completely disenfranchise them.
