“I am here because I am inspired by his record; and I hope that, on the matter of education, we will achieve the same results so that somewhere down the line we are going to make a breakthrough to the conscience of Americans and they will understand as much about the fact that education is the number one national security issue as we now understand about certain more obvious defense issues. It is not only a national security issue, what happens with education. The workforce is going to be determined by the quality of education that we produce today. The workforce of tomorrow will be determined by that effort now. It also is important for us to understand that we are subjecting our children to conditions. And I say we because, regardless of where you live, you may have a suburban school which is perfect, but if you are a decision maker here in Congress then you are part of the problem, too.”
