“about 3 weeks ago I was invited along with 19 other Members of the House and five United States Senators to the White House to meet with President Bush and Vice President Cheney. This was a chance for President Bush to talk to us about his proposed $1.6 trillion tax cut and try to hear from us about our views on this tax cut and to find out where the Congress might stand. When it was my turn to speak to President Bush, I said to him, ``Mr. President, I know that you know Governor Bill Graves of Kansas. I'm from Kansas.'' He said, ``Yes, he's a friend of mine.'' I said that I read an interview with Governor Graves in the Associated Press about a week before I came to the White House and that Governor Graves I thought was very candid in talking to the reporter and he was talking about tax cuts and revenue shortfalls and education funding in the State of Kansas. The governor said during this interview, when he was talking about tax cuts that had happened in Kansas about the last 3 or 4 years, ``If I had known then what I know now, I would have done some things differently.''”
