Today is not Veterans' Day nor Memorial Day nor any of the other days we usually set aside to remember our servicemen and women. But we are not confined solely to those official days in remembering our nation's heroes. At this time in our nation's history, when once again the sound of battle rumbles on the horizon and the skies are darkened by war planes and bombs, we should reflect on a similar time 50 years ago. Few of us ever expected to see another day like December 7, 1941, and all of us hoped we never would. For over fifty years America led the world in a season of peace and prosperity. But on September 11, 2001, this generation's 'day that will live in infamy' came, and the 'sleeping giant' was awakened once again. In Fredericksburg, TX, there is a place with the motto, 'We inspire our youth, by honoring our heroes.' This place is called the National Museum of the Pacific War Campaign and it is very special indeed.
