His mother, the daughter of immigrants, was a public school teacher, and his dad was an engineer for General Electric. Nick's father emigrated from Iran in 1961 as a student with $100 to his name and found his way from New York to El Paso and then to California. Nick's upbringing instilled a fidelity for public duty, a respect for limits on government power, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law. As U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Texas, Nick has been on the frontlines of Federal law enforcement--leading one of the busiest districts in the country, prosecuting violent crime, cartel activity, and transnational threats while enforcing the law fairly.
