Mr. Speaker, we have worked hard since January 4 and we have already accomplished a great deal. House Republicans have applied the laws of the land to a Congress which for years saw fit to exempt itself from what it imposed upon others. With bipartisan support House Republicans brought up and passed a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. With bipartisan support we passed legislation ending unfunded mandates, and we have already passed wide-ranging crime legislation including strong and effective death penalty legislation. Oftentimes Democrats have voted with us and we appreciate it as do the American people who have been demanding these and other reforms for years. But we have much, much more work to do and we will get it done in 100 days as we promised.
