after years of frustration and months of hard work we are here today to do three good things for the American people: to give the President of the United States the long-sought line-item veto authority the American people wish for him to have, to give the senior citizens of America a chance to work in their senior years and still retain their Social Security benefits with less prejudice from the Government's desire to take their earnings away, their benefits away, if they earn money, and to create job opportunities by lessening the red tape burden on small business. We are here to do these things that the minority, when they were in the majority, would not do, and we can complete that work. Now we are being asked, and I might say it has been a very colorful and entertaining show; we are being asked to go back on the work that we did earlier on unfunded mandates and pose an unfunded mandate on the communities in our country in order to raise the minimum wage.
