I believe it ought to be a disinterested applicator of the law, regardless of politics, ideology, and those sorts of things. I believe we ought to look for nominees that do that. Both for my respect for the distinguished Senators from Hawaii and my respect for this nominee make it difficult for me to stand here and suggest, as I will, that we ought not to confirm this nominee for the Federal bench. I have no doubt that she is a person of integrity and character. But I want to share some concerns that I have about this nomination, and why I think it ought not be confirmed.
