On the recordJune 29, 2000
I am excited so many others are involved with the possibility that we can have a detailed map of the human genome through the identification of the 3 billion nucleotide basis that make up the human genome, helping to cure diseases. It is an exciting time. This Congress has played an important role. I know Dr. Charles DeLisi has played a key role. I know Senator Domenici, perhaps more than any other official in government, saw the possibilities of this several years ago, and used the power and leverage he had to make it a governmental project of the highest priority. I know he cares about it. Would the Senator share with the Senate his insight as to where we are in the human genome at this time.
