We have a problem when two people are working and they are making $30,000 a year--just two, a man and woman. They fall in love. They get married. At $30,000 a year each, they end up paying about $800 more a year, which is $60 or $80 a month in extra tax simply for getting married. I want to eliminate that. If somebody wants to deal with the other problem, they can. Frankly, I am beginning to observe there is a feeling on the other side that this bill needs to go away, that people are not willing to confront it directly. I hope that is not so. I hope we can see this legislation go forward.
