earlier today my friend and colleague from Illinois, Senator Durbin, came to the floor and criticized-- wrongly, I believe--my State of Alabama and the State of Arizona for something that I would think we would all want every State and locality to do; that is, cooperate in the enforcement of Federal immigration law. Alabama and Arizona are undertaking a legitimate effort in attempting to help enforce the laws of the United States when this administration too often has failed to do so. The American people and the rule of law in our country have suffered as a result. This administration has flatly refused to enforce our national laws-- generous immigration laws that they are--despite the fact that there is on the books extensive and a fair code of laws designed to facilitate substantial, legal immigration into our country. Moreover, the Obama administration is systematically going after States that attempt to assist--Arizona, Alabama, now South Carolina, and Indiana next. Even more egregious is that the administration has refused to take any action against States and localities that affirmatively, proactively, and intentionally impede the immigration enforcement in the United States. These jurisdictions include San Francisco County, Santa Clara County, Washington, DC, and perhaps the most egregious example: Cook County, IL, which recently passed an ordinance--passed an ordinance directing local Illinois law enforcement officials to ignore U.S.…
