I had a call several months ago, before I offered the amendment, from Congressman Duncan Hunter of San Diego, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, and he shared with me his positive view of what the San Diego fencing had meant for that area. Crime had gone down. Economic growth had occurred on both sides of the border--it was so positive. I know there is fencing in Arizona, and it is not the best kind, not the most attractive. As was said, it is not something you can see through--landing mats. But based on the Senator's experience and many years of examining what has happened at the border, is he convinced and would he share his thoughts about how this could be helpful in the overall view of creating a border in which the law is followed and we have security?
