“I too would like to say it is a privilege to come to the floor of the House and be able to address the House on important matters of the day. In my first term in the House, the 108th Congress, and my background is actually as a physician, and when I came to Congress in 2003, one of the things that you do with a doctor when you put them in Congress is put them on the Transportation Committee. So I had a very good session of Congress on the Transportation Committee. I was fortunate enough after my reelection in 2004 to be placed on the Energy and Commerce Committee on the Subcommittee on Health. So having had experience in Congress on both roads and now health, what I thought I would talk about tonight is the road to affordable health care. Some of the things that I want to talk about tonight are the overall affordability of health care and where we are in this country and where we are going. I want to talk about the public versus the private systems in this country. We obviously need to talk about the uninsured and some of the programs to help with the uninsured, federally qualified health centers, association health plans and health savings accounts.…”
